Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Chess Next Move Calculator AI (the “App”) is developed and operated by Mahajan Works (“we,” “our,” or “us”). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the App, how we use it, and the choices available to you. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Policy.

2. Information We Collect

A. Information You Provide

Feedback & Support: If you contact us via the in-app feedback feature, we collect the content of your message, any attachments such as screenshots, and your email address if you choose to provide it. This information is used solely to respond to your inquiry and improve the App.

B. Information Collected Automatically

• Anonymous Identifier: We use Firebase Anonymous Authentication to assign a unique, anonymous ID to your device. This allows us to provide a personalised experience and manage your subscription status without requiring you to create an account or share any personal credentials.
• Usage Analytics: We use PostHog and Firebase Analytics to understand how you interact with the App. Collected events include actions such as requesting a best-move calculation, starting a game against the AI, or viewing the premium paywall. This data is used solely to improve the App.
• Website Analytics: When you visit this website we use PostHog to record anonymous page views, the page that referred you, your approximate location, clicks on app store buttons, and the steps you take in the image to FEN converter (choosing an image, a conversion succeeding or failing, copying the FEN). These events never include your image or the board position. We do not set cookies for this; the anonymous identifier is kept only for your current browser tab and is discarded when you close it. We do not record your website session.
• Session Replay: We may use PostHog Session Replay to record in-app interactions, which may include screenshots of the App’s interface, to help diagnose technical issues and improve user experience. We do not use session replay to capture sensitive personal information.
• Crash & Performance Logs: We use Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports. These may include your device model, operating system version, and the state of the chessboard at the time of an error. This data is used exclusively for debugging and stability improvements.

C. Camera & Image Data

FEN Detection: If you use the photo-to-board feature, the App accesses your device’s camera to capture an image of a physical chessboard. This image is transmitted to an external API service to detect the board position (FEN string). Images are not stored beyond the duration of the request and are not used for any other purpose.

Website Image to FEN Converter: If you use the converter on this website, the part of your image you crop to the board is sent to our server only to read the board, and is deleted immediately after the FEN is produced. It is never stored or used for training. Your IP address travels with the request so our server can apply fair-use limits per visitor; it is held in memory for at most one day for that purpose only. To keep automated traffic out, the converter uses Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks signals from your browser under Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and maintain the App’s features and functionality
• To diagnose bugs, crashes, and performance issues
• To understand how users interact with the App and prioritise product improvements
• To manage and verify your subscription status via RevenueCat
• To display rewarded video advertisements through our advertising partners (ironSource / Unity LevelPlay, Unity Ads and Meta Audience Network)
• To respond to your feedback and support requests

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for purposes beyond those described in this Policy.

5. Advertising

The App shows rewarded video advertisements, and only when you choose to watch one in exchange for coins. Ads are delivered throughironSource (Unity LevelPlay), a mediation service that selects an ad from one of our ad networks:Unity Ads andMeta Audience Network.

To serve and measure ads, these partners may collect your device’s advertising identifier (where permitted), device type and operating system, IP address and the approximate location derived from it, and your interactions with ads. Each partner processes this data under its own privacy policy, linked in Section 4.

Personalised and non-personalised ads:If you do not consent to personalised advertising (see Section 8), ads are still shown but are not based on your interests, and you receive the same rewards either way.

Advertising identifiers: On iOS, the App requests permission to access your device’s Advertising Identifier (IDFA) via Apple’s App Tracking Transparency framework — you will see a system permission prompt, and you may allow or deny it. On Android, our partners may use your Google Advertising ID (GAID). You can change this at any time inSettings → Privacy & Security → Tracking(iOS) orSettings → Google → Ads → Delete advertising ID(Android).

6. Subscriptions & Payments

All in-app purchases and subscription billing are processed securely by the Google Play Store (Android) or the Apple App Store (iOS), depending on which platform you downloaded the App from. We do not receive, collect, or store your credit card, debit card, or bank account information. We use RevenueCat solely to verify and manage your subscription entitlements within the App.

7. Your Rights & Choices

• Data Deletion: You may request deletion of your feedback and support data by emailingchessnmp@mahajanworks.com. We will respond within a reasonable time.
• Analytics & Personalised Ads: You can turn analytics and personalised advertising on or off at any time in the App underAbout → Privacy settings. You may also stop all data collection by uninstalling the App.
• Advertising ID: You can reset or delete your advertising identifier via Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking (iOS) or Settings → Google → Ads (Android).

8. Users in the EEA, UK & Switzerland

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR or the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection applies to our processing of your personal data. Mahajan Works is the controller of that data and can be contacted atchessnmp@mahajanworks.com.

A. Your Consent Choices

When you first open the App in these regions, we ask for your consent before any analytics or personalised advertising takes place. Analytics and personalised advertising are separate choices, and you can allow either, both, or neither. Until you decide, no analytics data is collected. Declining does not limit the App: ads are still available, non-personalised, with the same rewards.

B. Legal Bases for Processing

• Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — analytics, crash reporting, and personalised advertising.
• Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) — providing the App’s features, board scanning, and managing your subscription.
• Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — serving non-personalised ads that keep the App free, responding to feedback you send us, and keeping the App secure.

C. Your Rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. To exercise any of these rights, email us atchessnmp@mahajanworks.com; we will respond within one month.

D. Withdrawing Consent

You can withdraw or change your consent at any time, as easily as you gave it, in the App underAbout → Privacy settings. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before it.

E. International Transfers

Some of our service providers process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where they do, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.

F. Complaints

If you believe we have not handled your data lawfully, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection supervisory authority in your country of residence. We would appreciate the chance to address your concern first, so please contact us.

9. Data Retention

We retain anonymous usage and analytics data for up to 24 months, after which it may be stored in aggregated, non-identifiable form. Feedback and support data is retained for as long as necessary to resolve your inquiry and is deleted upon written request. Camera images used for FEN detection, and images uploaded to the website’s image to FEN converter, are not retained beyond the duration of the request.

10. Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided personal information, we will delete it from our servers immediately. 11. Security

We implement physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect the information we process. Access is limited to authorised personnel and contractors who require it to operate or improve the App. While we strive to use commercially reasonable means to protect your data, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the Effective Date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Policy.
